About The Artist

Gregg Coppolo was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1955. His father was in the military and he spent his younger years in Florida and New York before his family returned to Massachusetts to settle in the town of Bourne. Gregg graduated from Bourne High School in 1974, then attended the New England School of Art in Boston for a year of formal training. A draftsman by trade, Gregg draws with colored pencil as a hobby. Besides illustrations of decoys and waterfowl, he also does whaling ships and surrealistic landscapes. In his colored pencil drawings, he uses a technique called burnishing. It is a method of blending color through pressure, breaking down the pigment particles to a fine grain into the surface of the paper resulting in a smooth, shiny finish. In addition to winning the 2008 Massachusetts Waterfowl Stamp contest, Gregg also won the Massachusetts Archery/Primitive Arms contest in 2001 and has entered the Federal Waterfowl Stamp contest. During his free time he often takes long walks along the beach, or in the woods and marshes of his hometown. He enjoys studying wildlife and also likes to go camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
